The reflection recalls to mind Donne's A Nocturnal Upon St. Lucy's Day, the close lines that say, "Let me prepare towards her, and let me call/This hour her vigil, and her eve, since this/Both the year's, and the day's deep midnight is." I offer a resounding YES to these lines especially, "Rejoice does not mean cheer up. It means to hear the trickle of water still rushing in the stream. It means to be the thrush in Thomas Hardy’s poem “The Darkling Thrush:” Joy illimited (a joy of which Hardy is unaware). It means to intuit Bethlehem—that nowhere town—and to believe in the deep cave of one’s being that something good, something to redeem us can abide there..."

Throughout this reflection, I was reminded of Pope Francis (and, no, I'm not Catholic just an admirer of the man), who is Time Magazine's Person of the Year, beating out10 finalists: President Obama, NSA leaker Edward Snowden, Syria President Bashar Assad, Iran President Hassan Rouhani, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, gay rights activist Edith Windsor and Miley Cyrus. Of course, he will be criticized in the media, especially now, but how can we not appreciate any person who embraces the poor and marginalized of society? I get such a strong sense of this in Mr. Weil's essay and in his poems. Thank you.Thomas G.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6272430209314356497.post-40204251424752403502013-12-15T08:41:16.051-05:002013-12-15T08:41:16.051-05:00Thanks so much for your comment, Gail! Thanks so much for your comment, Gail!ADELE KENNYhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09556261298519747516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6272430209314356497.post-75738568952377078132013-12-15T08:40:54.884-05:002013-12-15T08:40:54.884-05:00Thanks, Risa! Thanks, Risa!ADELE KENNYhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09556261298519747516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6272430209314356497.post-52389562880218614442013-12-15T08:40:28.331-05:002013-12-15T08:40:28.331-05:00Lovely, Rich.
